Something different...

Since I had no images of people in my body of work, I decided to take some self-portraits. Through the natural experimentation of doing so, I ended up taking some nude photos of myself. This isn't something I've done before, and I've never been someone who allows just anybody to see me without my clothes on. And yet, I've got to say, it was a genuinely liberating experience. I have vitiligo, and I've always been very aware of the patches of it on my skin. I always thought of them as ugly and unattractive, but looking at the images I took has begun to change my mind. A former girlfriend of mine told me that she loved the way my skin looked, and that she saw my vitiligo as a form of natural art. I struggled to comprehend that until now. If you are like me and are shy about your body, or think that the world must view it in a negative light, then I recommend taking photos of yourself naked. You don't have to show them to anyone, but I believe that when you sit back and look at them yourself, you'll see your body for how beautiful it is.

Traffic Trails

After quite some time away, I am back taking photos. The cold weather, and increased stress at work have both been factors in me not getting out as much. But with the open day for the photography diploma I'm hoping to study just over a week away, I felt driven to get snapping once again. I went out in the evening wanting to experiment with traffic light trails. I was impressed with the results, and there is an example below. Updates.

Apologies that it's been a little while since I've posted anything, life has proved to be rather time consuming of late. Whilst I've been away I've taken some new photos and I'm pretty happy with them. I feel I'm making improvements and growing my skills all the time. Here are a couple of samples, if you like what you see, please head over to http://www.flickr.com/photos/sdbphotographic/ to view the rest of my work.

Nate and I have also found time to record a third episode of the podcast. If you enjoyed the first two, or are yet to hear any of the episodes from the series, please visit http://sambentleyandnatekitch.podomatic.com/.

Thanks as always for reading,

Experiments in monochrome.

I had a bit of a play around with the black and white settings on my camera whilst waiting for a train yesterday. Got a couple of decent shots, this is definitely something I'd like to explore further.

Visit my Flickr page for more images from this set, as well as a selection of my other work.

Farley Mount & Crab Wood.

Went for a walk to Crab Wood Nature Reserve and Farley Mount Country Park yesterday, accompanied by Nate Kitch. I'm finally starting to get the hang of the new camera, and as a result, I got a few decent pictures.
